about fakenews_fanfic

This is a community for fanfiction about fake news. The main focus here is on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, with a fair bit of the MSNBC and CNN pundits, as well as a lot of other related odds and ends. If you can tie it back to the Fake News Power Hour in fewer steps than it takes to get to Kevin Bacon and there's no other niche community for your fic, it's welcome here. RPF or FPF or a combination of both, slash, femslash, het, or gen, it's all good.

posting guidelines

An expanded guide to the posting guidelines can be found here.

New posts may only be made for a creative work. Anything that is not a creative work is considered off topic and belongs in that day's Open Thread. Any off topic posts made to the front page of the community will be deleted (occasionally we will allow a post to be made that promotes something new and fic related within the fandom. If you wish to do this, please ask at least one of the moderators first). Acceptable creative works: aside from fanfic, we will also accept fanvids, fanmixes, podfics, comics, filk (lyrics written or rewritten for the fandom), and art. There are also the fakenews_fanart and realnewsfakeart communities for art.

The posting guidelines can also be found here.

All posts must have a header containing the following:

Pairing: (if your story is completely gen, let us know the main characters)
Rating: (G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17. These can depend on language, violence, sex, drug use, triggery material, etc., if you need more guidance, check the posting guidelines or Google)
Warnings: (if there's any content that could be objectionable, please give your readers a heads up. Do not warn for slash or femslash, but do warn for things like character death, non-con, and graphic violence. If the mods receive a legitimate complaint about something we will ask you to add a warning.)
Summary: (Just a brief idea of what to expect from the story. This helps people decide whether to read your post. Stories without summaries are not very intriguing. Your summary can be as simple as "Anderson calls Keith after a few drinks." Do not write "I'm bad at summaries.")
Links to previous parts: (Required if applicable. Mods may remind you to add these if you do not.)
Disclaimer: (disclaimers are not optional. If you post without a disclaimer, we will ask you to add one, and if you do not add one within two days, your post will be removed. There's a sample disclaimer below for you to copy and paste. Please note that "These people/characters do not belong to me" is not an appropriate disclaimer. Include a statement that your work is original and not factual.)

Optional header info:

Series: (what show is your story based around? eg. The Daily Show, Anderson Cooper 360, etc)
Word count:
Author's note: (Is there anything you want people to know? Research you did? A beta you want to thank?)

Please put the body of your fic under an LJ-cut, and add the appropriate tags.

Additional posting guidelines include having content in the subject line, and specific multi-chapter fic policies.

about those tags

Here are instructions on searching multiple tags at once.

This community has a fairly well-kept archive that arranges stories by author, pairing, series, and rating so that you can find what you're looking for to read. In order to keep that archive in its fairly well-kept state, we ask you to tag your fics by author, rating, pairing or gen character, and the optional series tags or genre tags.

If you're posting a non-fic creative work, please tag those accordingly as well. Non-fic tags include: art, comic, filk, illustration, mix, podfic, promotion (these must be cleared with the mods), and vid. Filk are song lyrics written or rewritten for the fandom.

New tags can only be created by the moderators. If it's your first time posting and you need an author tag, or you're writing a pairing that hasn't been done before and need a pairing tag, please leave a comment in the latest Open Thread with a link to your post and let us know what you need added.

A more detailed explanation of the tags can be found here.

about the open thread

Six days a week, a mod will post an Open Thread. The prompt or topic is a suggestion only - the open threads are exactly that: open. We ask that you be respectful to other community members. Disagreements happen, but please don't set out to troll, flame, or wank. The Open Thread is where all the off-topic stuff that you want to talk about goes, as well as any beta requests, fic recommendations, fic searches, and general fandom stuff. The OTs are community-locked.

Fics posted to the OTs will at some point be archived (by one of the mods, typically whoever posted that day's OT) in the community's Delicious account. Tags that will always be added are author, date, and pairing or gen tags. If a rating is provided, fics will be tagged with a rating. There is also a crossover tag.

When writing for the OTs, remember that fic that does not fit into one comment must be posted to the top level of the community. This policy is based on community feedback.
